I mentioned it because Klima in his write up though he could break into a Major League bullpen because of his tools and experience in the closer's role at Arizona. As last year showed, it's probably not going to happen as soon as many people would have thought.

Of course, that's not a bad thing. He still could have potential to reach the bigs. The problems is the bullpen is crowded as of now and I can't see him having a role in a year or two in the Giants pen. I like your idea of stretching him out and developing him more. I don't think it could hurt, and it might increase his value a little bit. I think to do so he's going to have to better condition himself. He's not the best athlete, and there were concerns about his stamina due to his limited role in Arizona (as the closer) and body type.

Of course, it may be up to him to get into shape, so it'll be interesting to see if he'll take the initiative on that over the next year or so.Kevin O'Brienhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00114732419318117049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403092643973900215.post-11526781541667449452011-05-15T11:14:39.831-07:002011-05-15T11:14:39.831-07:00Hey, just found the blog through Splashing Pumpkin...Hey, just found the blog through Splashing Pumpkins. I like it!

A couple of thoughts on Stoffel:

I saw him last year twice with San Jose. The first time, he appeared to be trying to rush everything, even his warmup pitches! He started out with radar gun readings of 92-94 but gave up a couple of soft hits. As the inning went on, he lost velocity and focus quickly and when the fastball got to the high 80's they were taking batting practice off him. Later in the Cal League playoffs, he was more deliberate and seemed to have better secondary stuff, but still got hit hard, although I think the biggest hit he gave up was to Mike Trout who was in fire.

Here's what I think the Giants need to do with Stoffel. Both he and the Giants need to forget about the fast track because it ain't happening. He needs to be stretched out, possibly even to a starter for force him to learn to pitch and to increase his stamina. For him personally, if conditioning is part of the stamina problem, he needs to take personal responsibility for it and start working out.

He has the tools to make it to the majors, but the "fast track" isn't going to get him there.DrBGiantsfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10699322384438591979noreply@blogger.com
